Topic Brainstorm

After some research I narrowed my project ideas to 4 options! The god's/devas Being a Christian always leaves me interested in learning more about other gods/deities out there. I think this project will be a perfect way to learn more about the Hindu religion since so many of their gods are portrayed throughout all the stories. I took a Non-Western dance course here at OU a couple of years ago, and when we learned about India we also had to learn about their religion! We didn't cover enough information for me to learn as much as I would have liked, so I would love to have a project centered around the idea of someone exploring the god's, their stories, and how they differ from one another. It would probably be best to tell the story from a 3rd person point of view in order to convey the comparing and contrasting I would love to do!  Music I love music! You don't have to know what the singer is saying to enjoy a song, you can still be moved by music simply throug...

Tech Tip: Canvas Tips

I remember when Canvas was launched I hated it. I didn't know how to work it, half my professors were still using D2L, and it was just overall hard to break old habits. There was a syllabus column that never had the class syllabus in it, I didn't understand the difference between a "module" and a "file", and I could never get the message notifications to go away. As the semester went on and I got used to the new website, I began to like it more and more. It's much easier to navigate, especially the app.At the touch of a screen I had my grades, assignments, and files. I never had to use the zoom feature on my iPhone or try to strategically click the right class from the drop down menu ever again. My "#FirstWorldProblems" were over!

Week 2 Story: The Princess and The Pauper... Kinda

Image
Click here for a Revised Version Once upon a time, in a land far, far away there once lived a princess named Ellie, and a pauper named Cat. Princess Ellie was the prettiest of the pretty. She had long blond hair, sparkling blue eyes, fair skin, and freckles that looked as if angels had kissed her cheeks. Every girl wanted to be her, and every boy wanted to be with her. While Ellie was a “sight” for sore eyes, Cat was more of a “fright”. Her dull, frizzy hair, pale skin, and hunched back made her less of a desired choice. If people only cared about what was on the inside and not the out, Cat would be considered more beautiful than Ellie could ever be. But that wasn’t the case in the land that was far, far away. In order to help pay off her parents debts to the royal family, Cat had to work as a servant for Ellie. Day after day Ellie ordered Cat around, and paraded her around as her own personal ‘freak show’. After months, and months of this public humiliation Cat broke. She ...

Reading Notes

Of all the Jatakas I read I would have to say Rabbit and Crane and Crab were the two I enjoyed reading the most. The rabbit was one I enjoyed, because I loved Chicken Little growing up! Crane and Crab, on the other hand, was one I liked because of the sly crab that used his wits to over come the 'bad guy'. Even though I really enjoyed both of the readings there are still things I would have changed about them to add more depth. One of the best things about Chicken Little is they tied "the earth is falling" to "the boy who cried wolf", and made a pretty spectacular cartoon movie out of it. If I were to remake the Rabbi t tale I would probably give it more of an entertaining backstory.  Maybe the rabbit wasn't the most popular, and wanted everyone to be his friend for at least a day so he lied and said the world was breaking so everyone would live like the world was going to end. My story wouldn't necessarily be them all acting crazy, but them trea...

Reading Options

Image
Wow... There are so many options of epics to read! It was kind of overwhelming! While browsing the epics the stories that caught my attention usually had something to do with Krishna and Vishnu! I don't really know what that will look like as I complete the story project, but I can't wait to learn more about the Indian divinities. Religion in India has always intrigued me.  Shri Krishna of Dwarka and Other Stories  is labeled as a fast paced story of Krishna's life. This story is going to give me a lot of insight on who Krishna is, why he's important, and all the adventures he had through his life. I'm really excited to build my knowledge on this character.  Ramayana: Sita  is a combination of a love story and an Indian Divinity! I learned a little bit about Vishnu in my Non-Western Dance class and have always wanted to know a little more about him. I'm excited about this read because I'm a sucker for love stories!  Rama: Avatar of V...
