Week 6 Story: Sleeping Aurrie

Image
Once upon a time, in another land far far away was a king named Hubert. King Hubert was one of the greatest men alive. Not only did his people adore him for his kingship, but they also adored him for his selfless, king hearted mentality. King Hubert was a great king and husband, but he knew he'd be an even greater father.  For years him and his wife were trying to conceive, but time after time they were unable to. King Hubert refused to accept defeat. In the middle of the night he snuck away to go visit Mal, the witch of the kingdom. Mal had nappy, greasy black hair, a wart the size of a tomato on the side of her nose, and her skin was a slight tint of green. When king Hubert arrived Mal knew there was something up, the king barely even acknowledged her most days. The king began to explain his and his wife's troubles and Mal grew angry inside. She knew where the conversation was going and thought to herself: "How dare this man expect anything from me when he has neve

Dwarfs   Wife of the Five Pandavas : This was one of the few stories to catch my attention, mainly because I thought it was interesting how a woman had 5 husbands, when typically you only hear of men having more than one wife during those times. As I read it I thought to myself "how interesting/ terrible would it be to be a woman living with 5 guys?" Then I thought it would be fun to write a story from snow white's point of view when she was living with he 7 dwarfs, but in this case she would be living with 5! Just trying to keep the fairytale stories alive. Arijuna and Ulupi  : I really enjoyed reading this one too because it tied hand in hand with the first story I like from Part B. When reading about the "rules" the brothers had established, I thought it would be fun to combine these two stories and replace the "rules" with the "Bro code".  It would be a fun spin for the part of the code that is broken to be that no one falls for

Farquaad King Shantana & Satyavati:  The story of Shantana and Satyavati caught my attention because for some odd reason I could just envision a fairytale with it. I'm not quite sure why my creative senses automatically go to fairytales, but they do so I just roll with it. I'm thinking that I can change the characters around a little bit to make them more fitting to a prince and a princess. I'll probably make  Satyavati's character a lost princess instead of her not being chosen by the rajah. It will probably resemble the story of sleeping beauty a little bit. Bhishma At The Swayamvara : This story was kind of interesting to me because Bhishma had to go seek out the King's brides for him. Why couldn't the King do it himself? It made me think of Lord Farquaad from Shrek who made Shrek risk his life in order to save his princess. I think it may be a fun twist to combine both sleeping beauty and Shrek, but I'm not sure how I'd do that just yet

Famous Last Words: I Quit.

Image
I feel like it's only fitting to follow up with my blog post last week about how I was straight up struggling. I think it's important to note that this week was stressful in different ways, but I stuck to my last words last week. I was strict about staying on my homework schedule, and feel like I put a great amount of effort into my writings this week. However, I do think I'll have to revise my week 5 story to make it fit the style of my portfolio. Pinterest To sum up this week past week, I quit. Now I know you're probably wondering, "what did you quit?". Well, I quit caring about making people happy, saying yes to things when I really wanted to say no, taking on all of the internship responsibilities alone, and I quit hiding my stress. If that wasn't already enough things to quit, I'm ending my week of quitting by writing my letter of resignation to quit my job. At first I was afraid to quit everything, but I'm not happy and I know it'

Growth Mindset: Keep Moving Forward

Image
Keep moving forward. It sounds simple, but sometimes it's more difficult than you would think to have this mindset. This phrase became my life motto when I first saw the Disney movie Meet The Robinons. It played as the same theme through out the film, and reminded me that when I fail I should keep moving forward and not dwell on the failure. When you dwell on your failures you aren't learning how to move forward from them! So let them go, and move on!

Reading Notes: Sita Sings The Blues, Part B

Image
After finishing the film I was just sad. It was one thing to read the story of Rama and Sita, but another thing to watch it! There are so many things that I would have changed about the ending of the film. 1) I would have had Sita jump on Hanuman's back instead of causing Rama to kill hundreds of people (like the storytellers suggested). She didn't need revenge, she should have just been content with getting away from Ravana! 2) Rama would never have questioned her purity as much as he did, nor would he have banished her! I understand Sita loved him and was devoted to him, but that was crap and she shouldn't have put up with it. 3) I would have ended the story with Rama and Sita, and the cartoon characters actually living happily ever after! It was all just sad and depressing! I enjoyed the film though, and the way it told the Ramayana! It was very fun to watch. Bibliography:  Sita Sings the Blues , Nina Palay Screenshot

Week 5 Story: Princess to Pauper

Image
Click Here For Revised Story We last left off with the two Princess’ finding their soulmates. You may have thought that was the end of this fairytale, and that they would all live happily ever after, but the story is just beginning. Every good Princess Fairytale always has to have an evil stepmother, and there is indeed one in this story. When Ellie was younger, her mom got terribly sick and passed away. Just like any father, the King did not want Ellie to grow up without a mother, so he married Jezzabelle. Jezzabelle was not the worst person in the world, but she had a lot of hate stored in her heart towards Ellie. The king’s had no room in his heart to love anyone equally or more than he loved his daughter and first wife, and Jezzabelle knew it. When the King asked for her hand in marriage she said she would only marry him if he agreed to strip Ellie of her royalty if she ever got married. She explained that it was important that the princess learn who she was without her royal

I enjoyed the first half of Sita Sings The Blues! It was very interesting to see a film tell a story from 3 different perspectives. At first the 3 different cartoon designs really threw me off, but then I realized it was because it was different for each perspective. My favorite perspective was definitely from the storytellers. They had small hints of humor while they told the story, and also simplified it way more than the actual Ramayana we read. They only told the parts that really mattered, and then sometimes they would put in a fun fact. I think one of my favorite parts overall was how simplified the Ramayana was that you could still follow the story well even when she was singing a song that only talked about how much she loved Rama. If I were to change anything about this particular video I  probably would have kept it from the story tellers point of view, and used the cartoony design for all of the characters instead of switching back and forth. I also would probably get rid of

I started with the Indian god of Love, Kamadeva  because of a story I read from one of the students this week. Kamadeva is usually portrayed with a bow that has a string of honey bees, and then an arrow with a bunch of different flowers. From there I clicked on one of the trees that produces one of the flowers, the Ashoka Tree . That click was pretty uneventful because it turns out theirs two different types of plants that come from that tree so then I clicked on Saraca Asoca which is a flower that falls in the legume family! This tree is usually related to yakshmi who is mythical being in hindu culture that is usually portrayed in a statue under the tree with his foot on the base! Yakshmi Statue

Tech Tip: Pinterest Board

Image
I have been using Pinterest for a few years now, and it all started when my sister showed me that I could create boards with my favorite things So I created boards for my favorite celebrities, my clothing styles, and even boards with pins that made me laugh. As time went on I started using Pinterest for DIY projects, costumes, and even workout plans. As I've gotten older my pointers has even started having a board with my future wedding ideas.  My India Epics Portfolio

Famous Last Words: #StruggleBus

Image
This past week I have realized that I have officially stepped onto the Struggle Bus. Before this week managing my 18 hours, work, interning, volunteering, and personal relationships was going well and then week 4 hit.. The beginning of the week I stuck to my normal schedule, and then some unexpected things hit in my internship and other online classes that diverted my attention away from this course this week. I actually missed writing my week four story, and I'm planning on writing a week 4 story later tonight just so everyone has something to comment on next week. Needless to say, I'm not all that proud of the work I put into this week, but I made up for missed assignments through extra credit. I also started the week realizing I did the week 4 project assignment last week, and I was super excited about my idea that it was impossible for me to back track to last weeks and be creative because I was sold on my story project that I had already came up with. This past week

Hold up. Wait a minute. Put a little Review in it!

Image
Because I have a fear of losing all my course work I have my documents not only on my blog, but also saved to my google drive, my documents on my computer, and then those documents have been saved on my external hard drive. When you're a senior you take extraordinary precautions to ensure your 4 years at OU doesn't turn into 5+. I'd have to say my favorite thing from the announcements this week was definitely the little cartoon clip. I relate 100%. I have multiple mental breakdowns when doing my class projects.. Some may say I'm a perfectionist but I disagree.  Cartoon

Kumbhakarna:  This epic was interesting to me and really made me think of a Kid who couldn't wake up to his alarm. I think it might be cool to Make it all a dream and that through out the entire dream he is being interrupted by multiple things, and then he loses the 'fight' between sleep and being awake, and his dream has to be over. Ravana and Lakshmana: As I read this epic all I could think about is when you play multiplayer in COD and have to revive players. It might be a fun idea to write a story of two soldiers from the game going through and beating each level, but then something goes wrong in the last level and the other partner has to revive him so they can win the game, and then they kill their enemy as he is trying to revive his partner. Sugriva and Hanuman: I love a character in disguise. I think Hanuman's ability to transform into anything is really cool. While reading this epic I realized I could go a couple different directions. I could continue my fairy tale storyline and turn Hanuman into a fairygod mother for one or both of the princesses! If I wanted to ditch the storyline I have going I could create a super hero league and Rama and Lakshmana are two super heroes in need of a new member to defeat the evil Robot Monster. Hanuman's super power would be shape shifter. Hanuman's Leap: The Entire Time I was reading this epic all I could think of was a pole Vaulter or Long Jumper competing in a really big meet. So I thought it would be cool to broaden my story horizons and ditch the fairytales and go for a real world example and turn Hanuman into an athlete! Feedback Strategies

Image
makeameme My fear of criticism and feedback started in the 3rd grade. Mrs. Greenwitch (I swear that was her name) looked me in the eye after staring at my painting I asked her to look at, and said "Would you like me to tell you the truth?". Me being naive of course wanted my Teacher to tell me the truth, but little did I know that was going to lead to her saying "This is not good", me hiding my tears in class, and secretly throwing away the picture when no-one was looking. She truly lived out the name "Greenwitch", she was indeed a Witch to any 8 year old girl at that point. Now you're probably thinking I made that story up, but I swear on my life it happened. Ever since that moment I never am satisfied with my work, I definitely don't draw, and I always tell myself someone won't like something I do so if I am criticized I already prepared for the worst. My fear of feedback all started when I was 8 years old with a teacher who probably doe

I chose the Contempo  Layout for my blog! I loved being able to have a background image to add some personality and color to it! I chose a pink, purple, marble looking background because I LOVE those colors together. My blog design is mainly for my own enjoyment, not really for anyone else's. The bright colors make my day when I look at my finished blog posts. I'm proud of my blog and because of that I have chosen to keep my identity on it. I take pride in my online Identity, and am very aware of the posts I make and how they can be perceived. Don't get me wrong, I did have social media when I was 13 so there are dramatic posts about the boys who broke my heart, some pictures with me and blue eyeliner, and me going into detail about how much I loved SuperMac18 on youtube... I cringe every time I see those, but nothing on my social media could ever ruin my chances at getting a job. My accounts are private just for the safety side of things, but I always let all of my campers

Week 3 Story: "Ron Wins Ellie, and Cat Gets Married Too"

Image
Click here for Revised Story In the land far, far, far away we once again meet up with the pauper named Cat and the princess named Ellie. We last left off with the two foes becoming friends, but now even more has happened! Cat has been adopted into the royal family, she too is now a princess! Both girls have become of age to be betrothed, so now the king is doing his best to find two wonderful suitors. While Ellie was walking in the palace garden she ran into a handsome young man named Ron. Ron was known as the cutest of all the land and Ellie had always had a crush on him. When Ron saw Ellie, he knew it was love at first sight. Ellie ran to her father and demanded he call off the suitor games so that she could just marry Ron, but her father refused. He had never been the biggest fan of Ron, and he would not give up his daughter to him unless he won her fair and square. While Ellie was crying in her room, worried that her and Ron wouldn't be together forever, Cat was as rel

Viradha : I'm all for a great battle, but there sure is a lot of death through out this epic and I'm not the biggest fan of that. However, one battle I can get behind is a Dance battle! So I think it would be a great idea to have Rama challenge Viradha to a dance battle, Rama wins, and then they fist bump it and call it a day. Shurpanakah and Rama: To me it just sounds like Shurpanakah wants to be loved, so in my perfect story world I would fulfill that desire of hers! Instead of her being oddly obsessed with Rama, I would prefer her think Lakshmana is worth her fancy. Rama and Sita would work their couple magic to make the two of them work out, and they would live happily ever after! Giphy Bibliography:  Viradha ,  Shurpanakah and Rama

Reading Notes: Ramayana, Part A

Rama Wins Sita I loved this short story. It really did make me think of a fairytale! While I was reading it I thought it was just too easy for Rama. There really was no challenge. So I thought the story would be more interesting if instead of breaking a bow, it was shooting a bow and arrow, and you had to get a bullseye to win Sita. Once I thought of that plot change, I thought it would be even more dramatic if Rama didn't actually win and someone else did, leaning more towards a 'forbidden love' theme! Rama and Sita's Wedding Rama winning Sita and marrying Sita would kind of go hand in hand, so I thought in my short story I could combine the two stories! Obviously Rama would be invited to the wedding since his siblings were getting married to Janak's other daughters. The story would have more 'wow' factor if Rama stood up in the middle of the ceremony and objected to Sita marrying another man. Giphy Bibliography: Rama Wins Sita , Rama and Sita

Topic Brainstorm

After some research I narrowed my project ideas to 4 options! The god's/devas Being a Christian always leaves me interested in learning more about other gods/deities out there. I think this project will be a perfect way to learn more about the Hindu religion since so many of their gods are portrayed throughout all the stories. I took a Non-Western dance course here at OU a couple of years ago, and when we learned about India we also had to learn about their religion! We didn't cover enough information for me to learn as much as I would have liked, so I would love to have a project centered around the idea of someone exploring the god's, their stories, and how they differ from one another. It would probably be best to tell the story from a 3rd person point of view in order to convey the comparing and contrasting I would love to do!  Music I love music! You don't have to know what the singer is saying to enjoy a song, you can still be moved by music simply throug
