Tech Tip: Canvas Tips

I remember when Canvas was launched I hated it. I didn't know how to work it, half my professors were still using D2L, and it was just overall hard to break old habits. There was a syllabus column that never had the class syllabus in it, I didn't understand the difference between a "module" and a "file", and I could never get the message notifications to go away. As the semester went on and I got used to the new website, I began to like it more and more. It's much easier to navigate, especially the app.At the touch of a screen I had my grades, assignments, and files. I never had to use the zoom feature on my iPhone or try to strategically click the right class from the drop down menu ever again. My "#FirstWorldProblems" were over!

Week 2 Story: The Princess and The Pauper... Kinda

Image
Click here for a Revised Version Once upon a time, in a land far, far away there once lived a princess named Ellie, and a pauper named Cat. Princess Ellie was the prettiest of the pretty. She had long blond hair, sparkling blue eyes, fair skin, and freckles that looked as if angels had kissed her cheeks. Every girl wanted to be her, and every boy wanted to be with her. While Ellie was a “sight” for sore eyes, Cat was more of a “fright”. Her dull, frizzy hair, pale skin, and hunched back made her less of a desired choice. If people only cared about what was on the inside and not the out, Cat would be considered more beautiful than Ellie could ever be. But that wasn’t the case in the land that was far, far away. In order to help pay off her parents debts to the royal family, Cat had to work as a servant for Ellie. Day after day Ellie ordered Cat around, and paraded her around as her own personal ‘freak show’. After months, and months of this public humiliation Cat broke. She ran

Reading Notes

Of all the Jatakas I read I would have to say Rabbit and Crane and Crab were the two I enjoyed reading the most. The rabbit was one I enjoyed, because I loved Chicken Little growing up! Crane and Crab, on the other hand, was one I liked because of the sly crab that used his wits to over come the 'bad guy'. Even though I really enjoyed both of the readings there are still things I would have changed about them to add more depth. One of the best things about Chicken Little is they tied "the earth is falling" to "the boy who cried wolf", and made a pretty spectacular cartoon movie out of it. If I were to remake the Rabbi t tale I would probably give it more of an entertaining backstory.  Maybe the rabbit wasn't the most popular, and wanted everyone to be his friend for at least a day so he lied and said the world was breaking so everyone would live like the world was going to end. My story wouldn't necessarily be them all acting crazy, but them trea

Reading Options

Image
Wow... There are so many options of epics to read! It was kind of overwhelming! While browsing the epics the stories that caught my attention usually had something to do with Krishna and Vishnu! I don't really know what that will look like as I complete the story project, but I can't wait to learn more about the Indian divinities. Religion in India has always intrigued me.  Shri Krishna of Dwarka and Other Stories  is labeled as a fast paced story of Krishna's life. This story is going to give me a lot of insight on who Krishna is, why he's important, and all the adventures he had through his life. I'm really excited to build my knowledge on this character.  Ramayana: Sita  is a combination of a love story and an Indian Divinity! I learned a little bit about Vishnu in my Non-Western Dance class and have always wanted to know a little more about him. I'm excited about this read because I'm a sucker for love stories!  Rama: Avatar of Vishnu  is a stor

Time Management

Image
I'm sad to admit that I once was the person that would say "I'm just too busy". It was honestly the perfect excuse to use when people asked me to do something I didn't really want, because they knew how jam packed my schedule was. If they didn't believe me I always had my agenda close by to show them my schedule including work, class, volunteering, and interning. The thing is, I wasn't controlling my schedule. My schedule was controlling me. I didn't know how to utilize the power of saying no and was always fearful of disappointing the person on the receiving end, so I did everything. Once I realized that, I took time to research articles about time management, and found one similar to The Myth of "Too Busy" . So I sat down and wrote out a list of things I have to do, things I needed to do, and then filled in my free time. Now when someone asks me to do something I run through my list, and if it is below another priority I need to get done I

Tick, Tech(nology), Toe

The title of my post literally means nothing, besides that I have no life and thought that was really funny and clever 😂 (I just found the emojis on this thing. #gamechanger). Blogging, bookmarking, graphic creations, and audio recordings are all things I'm super familiar with. I have my own personal blog that I post to every now and again, I bookmark websites on the daily, memes help visually express my reactions, and I've had to use audio recordings for other classes! Though none of the technology is really new for me, I am excited to further my skills with them. I haven't used the new Google Sites before, so I'm really looking forward to learning more about that! This is however the first class I've ever needed all of them for which makes is pretty cool! The layout of this class allows for a lot of creativity, and I love it! ( Spongebob & Patrick )

Class Assignments Review

Image
Wow! This class is so unique, and full of lots of opportunities to learn about things outside the topic of "India epics". I am really excited about the reading for this class so I can learn more about Indian culture, India has always fascinated me! Tuning into my creative side will also be something that I enjoy through the storybook project. I think the last time I was able to write a creative story was my Junior year of high school when I took the Texas State English test TAKS. I loved reading all the examples from the storybook archives, and have been thinking of how I want to do my own storybook project! ( MinionMemes ) The meme I provided perfectly sums up how I view most homework, but I'm actually really excited about these assignments! ( imgflip )

Growth Mindset

Image
Sylvia Duckworth Before this assignment I had never heard of Carol Dweck nor the specific term "growth mindset". Even Though I hadn't heard of the term, the overall idea of praising the process and not the answer is something I have heard before. I remember in high school I was terrible at math, and I would always have to go to tutoring. My teacher would always encourage me and tell me I was doing well when I was getting answers wrong, and I really didn't understand that because for me I thought I deserved praise only if I got the question right. But I realize now that she was praising the process and my dedication to try to get it right, and that she cared more about that than getting the answer right.  I would have to say academically I lean towards the more fixed mindset, but not because that's what I want, but because I know that's the mindset for the majority of my professors. I think I naturally believe in the growth mindset. I get frustrated w

Introduction

Image
Hello there!! My name is Briana (Bri-aw-nuh), but to keep it simple you can call me Bri! I am an Entrepreneurship Major, and I LOVE it. The way I love to describe my major is that its the "fun" business major. It's all about being creative, thinking outside the box, and solving problems in the real world through a product or service! Its collaborative friendly and encourages team work for pretty much every assignment. I went into my major blindly, but I can't imagine studying anything else.  Since we just got done with summer break I think a lot of who I am is summed up by what I did this summer! I got the amazing opportunity to live in the mountains of Colorado investing into the lives of 16 year olds while walking through scripture with them. I basically got paid to pretend like I was in high school again, and got to do fun things like hike, zip-line, bowl, and so many other things. To change things up a bit I'll provide my summer video that I compiled!

Storybook Favorites

Image
The First Meeting https://sites.google.com/site/talesofstrengthandstruggles/the-first-meeting ( Wikimedia ) My first favorite storybook would have to be The First Meeting. The stories of Sita and Ahalya are not ones that I'm particularly familiar with, but I am typically intrigued by stories of strength and struggles. I specifically like that the author took a spin on the two tales to tell them from the perspective of Sita and Ahalya. The introduction of The First Meeting sets up the rest of the story very well. From the very beginning you are introduced to all the characters, and the reasoning behind telling the story. The introduction does a very great job at catching the readers attention from the get go, and leaving them wanting to read more. The navigation of the blog is very straight forward, and easy for users. The background used on the site wasn't overwhelming, and I loved how there was an ombre type effect to keep the simplicity of the website.  Bed Time

Keller, Sky Ranch, Victory Family Church... Just a few of my favorite places :)

Image
I decided to pick three places that have shaped me into who I am, thus making them my favorite!  Victory Family Church:  VFC was the first church I visited my freshman year at OU, and after I knew it was "home". So much of my college career has consisted of me being a part of this amazing community. Recently I have taken an intern position with their college ministry, which allowed me to tie in two of my favorite things, Jesus and OU! I spend most of my free time up at the church hanging out with my friends and helping out where I can. Its my "home away from home". This is a picture of my friend Madison and I serving Coffee on OU's campus to invite people to our college ministry!  Keller, Tx : Once ranked the 7th best place to live in the US, Keller is where I have lived my whole life! I have made so many great memories there, and every time I go home I make even more. One of the funniest memories I have has to do with the picture below! I have provi
