Week 5 Story: Princess to Pauper
We last left off with the two Princess’ finding their soulmates. You may have thought that was the end of this fairytale, and that they would all live happily ever after, but the story is just beginning. Every good Princess Fairytale always has to have an evil stepmother, and there is indeed one in this story. When Ellie was younger, her mom got terribly sick and passed away. Just like any father, the King did not want Ellie to grow up without a mother, so he married Jezzabelle. Jezzabelle was not the worst person in the world, but she had a lot of hate stored in her heart towards Ellie. The king’s had no room in his heart to love anyone equally or more than he loved his daughter and first wife, and Jezzabelle knew it. When the King asked for her hand in marriage she said she would only marry him if he agreed to strip Ellie of her royalty if she ever got married. She explained that it was important that the princess learn who she was without her royal status, and the King trusted her stance. The king wasn't allowed to forbid the princess from marrying, but he was allowed to make it as difficult as possible which is why the suitor games were created to begin with. When Ron hit the bullseye, the kings heart shattered, because he knew he would have to send Ellie into the real world. He was a man of his word.
With tears in his eyes, the king walked Ellie to the garden and explained the promise he had made to Jezzabelle, and the reasonings behind it being to unshelter her, and prepare her for the real world. He then explained that Ellie could come back to the kingdom if she obtained a degree, and a real job. Ellie packed her bags, and ran away to the woods with Ron. There she sat on a rock crying her eyes out, praying for some kind of miracle to make the bad things go away. It was at that very moment when a cloaked figure walked her way. It was a older woman with a slightly hunched back. She walked with a limp, and had a cane to hold herself up. Ellie was slightly terrified, but she wiped her eyes and asked the woman who she was. She gently replied “I am numa, who are you?”. Ellie responded back “I’m princess…… or I was princess Ellie, but now I’m just Ellie I suppose”. Numa responded “My dear sweet child. it is your cries that I have heard, and I have come to help you”.
It was in that moment Numa undisguised her self at the wave of her wand she had hidden under her cloak. Sparkles flew around her body, and before Ellie could blink a wonderfully, joyful, cute old fairy stood before her. Numa responded “Fairy godmother Numa, report for duty!” Ellie was shocked. She couldn’t move. “A fairy godmother?! What could you possibly help me with?!” asked Ellie. Numa looked Ellie into the eyes and said “You turned a pauper into a princess, it appears that I must help turn a princess into a pauper. “ Ellie didn't understand why Numa couldn’t just change the kings mind, but Numa had to explain magic can’t undo what’s already been done, it can only help move forward. Ellie wanted to go home and start ruling the Kingdom with Ron, but she knew this was what she had to do. She agreed to let Numa help her, and Numa disguised the princess, and gave her all the tools she needed to be successful In the real world. Ellie went from riches to rags, but Ron’s love for her didn't waiver. The two lovers interlocked fingers and walked towards the direction of Princesston University. Numa grew an attachment to Ellie, and couldn’t bear the idea of leaving her so she transformed into a button that attached to Ellie’s backpack.

Bibliography: Sugriva and Hanuman
Authors Note: I played off the story of Sugriva and Hanuman. In the story Rama and Lakshmana seek out the Sugriva in order to help get Sita back. The Sugriva sends out Hanuman to scout the two brothers to figure out who they are and why they came. Once Hanuman figured out who they were he undisguised himself, threw them on his back, and took them to Sugriva. I loved the fact that Hanuman could transform, so I decided to keep the story of the fairy tale and make Hanuman a fairy godmother to Ellie once she gets kicked out of the kingdom. Just as Hanuman helped the brothers, I had Numa help Ellie and Ron.
Ahh, I love a good fairy tale! I love how you detailed Numa as an older lady with a hunched back. She treasures Ellie, and I love that she decided to help her and Ron out. Poor Ellie deserved a break in life! You also gave so much detail throughout the reading, and I'm amazed at how you created this from the Sugriva and Hanuman story. How unique! Also, this reminded me so much of the movie, "A Cinderella Story" in certain parts, which is one of my all time favorite movies.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Hey Briana! I can't stress enough how much I love princess stories. It's like an obsession! I liked that you were able to write a princess story out of the Sugriva and Hanuman story. It's very different from the original but you kept a lot of the cool aspects of the original like Hanuman being able to shape shift. The beginning reminded me of the newer Cinderella movie that came out a couple of years ago. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteBriana, I thought that it was interesting that the evil stepmother in this story wants to remove Ellie's ties to royalty, but that she can come back whenever she gets an education or a job. I think this actually sounds pretty reasonable, lol. In college, I've seen a lot of people take their privileges and advantages for granted, so I found a connection to your story in that way! I would just suggest going back through to revise grammar. Other than that, good job!
