Growth Mindset: REAL







When it comes to growth mindset I think that it requires these four things I have listed above. A teacher should recognize each student as an individual, instead of as a whole. Each student learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. Before teaching a student something a teacher must recognize how the student best learns and what he/she struggles with. From there teachers should move to encouragement instead of criticism. It's so easy to put a terrible grade on the paper and leave out the efforts that were put into an assignment or test, but before you can correct what is wrong it is best to point out what is right. From there we move to adapt. If a teacher has already recognized how a student best learns, it is important they adapt to their learning style. If a teacher wishes to have growth mindset in the class, they must be willing to meet each student where they are at individually. Lastly, once the first three things happen a student is able to learn and be pushed into improving in areas specifically created for him/her.

  1. Briana, I am actually going to save that photo you utilized in your post! It makes sense that teachers should recognize a student's abilities, how they learn and adapt and encourage them in the end. What is great about that photo and acronym, is that it can be applied with anyone and any scenario, as well, other than with teachers. People should recognize and be mindful of others and the situation(s) they are in while also being able to learn and adapt during the occasion. Encouragement should also happen before, during and after these scenarios, because we should not discourage or judge others, but help them to understand and improve. Great post!
